Private Papers & Archives

The Trust collections include Sir Harold Bailey’s correspondence files comprising letters from over 2000 correspondents dating from ca. 1928 until his death in 1996. They include all the major orientalists of his day, among them Sven Hedin, Sir Marc Aurel Stein, Sten Konow, Sir John Marshall etc. These are currently in the process of being catalogued. The Bailey archive also includes his working papers arranged in 482 boxes (download provisional list).

The Trust also holds the working papers of the Allchins which are currently being sorted and arranged, in addition to small collections of papers of Charles Bawden, Mary Boyce, Joan Van Lohuizen and Ralph Pinder-Wilson.
